Mt. Kailash. It is the ultimate pilgrimage site for both Buddhist and Hindu devotes. Mt. Kailash ( 22,022') stands completely alone with no other peaks near it. Pilgrims travel to this remote area in far western Tibet to complete the circuit around the base of this sacred mountain ( to do so is said to erase the sins of a lifetime) and to the holy Mansarover Lake. Four great rivers of Tibet, India and Nepal havetheir origins near Kailash; the Tibetians consider these rivers and their sources sacred.
From Kathmandu, we will drive through the lovely countryside of northen Nepal to the Nepali - Chinese border at Kodari. We cross the Friendship Bridge and drive into Tibet to Zhangmu and on to Nyalm in southern Tibet for a day of hiking and acclimatization. You will have your first experience of the vastness of the Tibetan Plateau as we travel north crossing the Brahmaputra River to Saga.
We will pass numerous nomadic encampments until finally we arrive in Darchen, the starting point for our 3-day circuit of Mt. kailash, trekking around the mountain.
